Meowstian ("we", "our", "app") respects your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your information.
The short version: your journal entries are yours. They are encrypted before they are stored. We do not sell your data, we do not run ads, and we do not use your journal text for advertising or analytics.
What we collect
- Journal entries — The text you write in your daily reflections. Entries are encrypted on your device before they are transmitted, and are stored encrypted in our database.
- Account information — If you sign in with Google we receive your email address and display name; your email is encrypted before storage. Anonymous users are never asked for this.
- Progress data — Streaks, stars, scratch-card reveals, and which insights you have viewed, so your streak and progress are restored when you sign back in.
- Usage analytics — Anonymous event counts such as "journal saved" or "insights opened". These events never contain your journal text.
- Crash reports — If the app crashes we receive the error and the app state at the time. These do not contain your journal text.
- Subscription status — Processed entirely by RevenueCat and Google Play. We never see or store your payment details.
What we do not collect
- No location. The app does not request, collect, or transmit your location.
- No contacts, photos, or files are read from your device.
- No advertising identifiers. We do not use the advertising ID and do not show ads.
- No sale or rental of your data to anyone, for any purpose.
How we use your data
- Your journal text is sent to a third-party AI provider so the app can generate a personalised Bible reflection based on what you wrote. Without this the core feature would not work. The provider processes the text to generate a response and does not use it to train models for unrelated purposes.
- Journal text and account data are stored so your entries are available when you return, including on a new device after you sign in.
- Analytics and crash reports are used only to improve the app's stability and usability.
User-Generated Content
Your journal entries are private to you. We do not display, share, or publish your journal content publicly.
Data sharing
We do not sell your data. Data is shared only with the service providers that run the app:
- AI model provider (OpenRouter) — Processes journal text to generate insights.
- RevenueCat and Google Play — Subscription status, paywall, and purchase verification.
- Google Firebase — Authentication and crash reporting.
- Google Analytics for Firebase — Anonymous usage events.
- Our database host (Turso) — Stores your encrypted journal entries and account data.
How your data is protected
Journal entries and your email address are encrypted before they are written to our database, using a key derived from your account, so we cannot read your stored journal content from the database alone. Data is transmitted over HTTPS.
Permissions the app requests
- Notifications — to send your daily reminder at the time you chose.
- Microphone — only if you choose to record your own voice note while writing; audio stays on your device unless you attach it.
- Internet — to sync entries and fetch insights.
- Boot completed — to re-schedule your daily reminder after the device restarts.
Data retention and deletion
Your data is retained while your account exists. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from Profile → Delete Account. Deletion removes your journal entries, insights, and account data from our systems.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, or to object to certain processing. Because you can delete your account and all of its data directly in the app, you can exercise most of these rights yourself at any time. For anything else, contact us and we will respond.
Children
Meowstian is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Security
We use encryption in transit and encryption at rest for journal content. No system is perfectly secure, but the app is designed so that a breach of our database does not expose your readable journal entries.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change we will update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
